Re: [platform-debug-dev] extending VariablesView? (Memory View)

Hi Derek -

The renderings are designed to be portable, meaning that the renderings can
be displayed in any view that implements IMemoryRenderingSite and
IMemoryRenderingContainer. So, in theory, to have another view display only
one type of rendering is possible provided that this custom view implements
the aforementioned interfaces.

Another requirement that you have is that your custom rendering should only
be displayed in the custom view and not in the Memory View, So, you need
to be able to provide a different set of renderings depending on which view
is displaying your memory block. Is this correct? This is also not
possible in the current infrastructure. You may want to submit an
enhancement request for this. To get around this problem, your custom view
needs to know which rendering to create.

To summarize your requirements:
* You need to be able to have more than one Memory View opened at the same
time. - already possible
* You need to be able to provide a different set of renderings for your
memory block depending on which view is displaying that memory block. -
currently not possible
* You need to be able to disallow your user from removing a rendering that
is currently displayed in the Memory View. - currently not possible

Are these the only two things that force you to write your own view? Or
are you doing other customization?

Thanks...
Samantha

Samantha,

Thanks for the response, and sorry for my delay - busy implementing!

What I want is an *additional* memoryview that just displays my custom
renderings. I want to allow the user to continue to use the existing
memoryview,
as they wish.

So, I actually want to do both things that you suggested! Is this possible?

Thanks,

Derek
