Re: [platform-debug-dev] extending VariablesView?

Hi Derek -

Re: Adding memory monitors to the list.
To programmatically add a memory monitor, you can do so by creating the
monitor and adding it to the memory block manager.

IMemoryBlockManager mgr = DebugPlugin.getMemoryBlockManager();
mgr.addMemoryBlocks(memoryBlocks);

The Memory View will get an event of the newly added memory monitors and
will add the monitors to the list.
Currently, there is no way to make a memory monitor permanent.

Re: Opening a 2nd instance of Memory View
You can also have more than one memory view opened at the same time. To do
that, click on the "New Memory View" button from the top right corner of
the view. This will create a new memory view. The second instance of the
memory view will show the same list of memory monitors, but the renderings
are not duplicated.

Re: APIs
Which APIs are you referring to? The flexible hiearachy APIs or the Memory
View APIs?

As Darin has mentioned before, we would like debug implementations to reuse
debug views as much as possible. Given that you can render a memory
monitor in any way that you want, is there any reason why you need to host
renderings in a different view? What is it lacking in the memory view that
forces you to create your custom view?

Thanks...
Samantha

Darin,

This is great. I have implemented a new MemoryView which now almost does
what I
want. To get it to do exactly what I want, I have 2 questions:

1. Can I programmatically add a monitor to the list of monitors? Can I make
it
'permanent' (so the user can't remove it)?
2. Can I have a 2nd instance of a MemoryView. I'd like to use all the
infrastructure etc, but have it in my own window.

The API looks good. What is expected to change between now and when it
becomes
official? Is there a bug I can attach to, to monitor?

Thanks,

---
Derek
