I had submitted a patch at sourceforge to AntView to allow it to work for
JDK 1.3.1 - there was a dependency on a jdk 1.4 only method [String.split
()] in the latest release.

Is the AntView code in the release candidate compatible JDK's earlier than
1.4?

This morning's integration build is the M3 candidate. It contains the new
external tools work (in progress). You have to turn on a preference to see
it (Window -> Preferences -> External Tools -> Work in progress").

Is this mornings Integration build  (I20021113) the M3 candidate?  Or do we
have to pull the code from a branch somewhere.
Also, while on the topic, are you actually developing the new external
tools on a branch and periodically merging over, or is all work being done
on the 2.1 branch?
