Nick,
Your in luck, I’ve committed a
version of modeling to http://phoenix.eclipse.org/modeling
that i’m using to test the skin (Nova) as a new Phoenix theme.
I’ve also had to remove the colored
rollover states from the icons as IE6 really didn’t link doing
that.
I’ll look into the buzz.php file
returning 404.
I agree the promo is well below the fold
but I think we’re ok with that. We’ve got other plans once ECon
gets closer to getting here on how to promote it more clearly.
Thanks for the feedback!

+1. Very nice. Would like to see this skin (header, footer, icons, divs)
available as a new Phoenix
theme so we could play with it in Modeling. We're due for a facelift. :)
Couple of minor nits...
* [trivial] the Eclipse Live and Planet Eclipse icons don't seem to have
coloured rollover states.
* [unrelated] the link to Modeling category goes to http://www.eclipse.org/home/categories/index.php?category=modeling,
from which there's a 404 for the Read More link: http://www.eclipse.org/home/categories/buzz.php
* [question] the promo for EclipseCon is waaay below the fold at the bottom of
the page, even at 1600x1200. Shouldn't it be higher?
But as I said, this new skin rocks, even if the name implies it won't go to our
Spanish speaking community members. :)
Kudos,
Nick

+1, based on feedback from the members this new layout will be
appreciated. Especially brining EPIC updates and community news to the
front. It does feel cleaner than the original page too.

*Subject:* [phoenix-dev] New "Nova" home page for www.eclipse.org
Greetings,
It is with great excitement that I present you our new home page. It will
be released next week, Tuesday Jan. 20.
After gathering feedback <https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=252006>
on our current home page, it became apparent that the simplistic design of the
current page was lacking functionality for many. The upcoming redesign,
entitled 'Nova', balances the simplicity that newcomers need and the dynamic
information updates that our regular audience has come to expect from our home
page.
You can preview it here:
http://www.eclipse.org/Nova/
Upon first glance, you will notice that the page is very clean, and that
information sections are very structured and clear. The *Explore the
Eclipse Universe* and *Get Started* sections, targeting the newcomer, are
placed front-and-center without occupying too much screen real estate.
Finally, you will also notice that the page no longer drowns in a sea of
purple, whereas a fixed-with page gives the site a fresh, modern look.
Nathan is currently putting the finishing touches on a new Theme for the
content pages on www.eclipse.org
<http://www.eclipse.org>.
Aptly entitled 'Nova', this new theme will match the look and feel of the
home page, and it will coexist with our current themes, Phoenix and Lazarus, allowing everyone to
transition at their own pace. As Nathan will explain later, the new Nova
theme should 'just work' for most content pages.
I hope you enjoy the new home page. Many thanks to everyone who voiced
feedback, provided ideas, and especially to Nathan for
being open to so much constructive criticism.
Denis
