Thanks, Nate. This is starting to shape up!. Here are some comments
(for everyone too, not just for Nathan).
Home Page
- The original proposal had a 'wave' in the background, not just a
linear fade. I found the wave added tremendous depth, whereas a fade
looks a bit cheap. I know it's much more challenging to do a wavy
background of this size, but I also know you're quite talented :)
- I agree with Don re: a single member ad. With a single ad you could
actually have another set of 'portlet' boxes?
- Karl: I'm not sure what issues you have with the header. Could you
perhaps do a mock-up of what you have in mind? The issue I have with
the header that was on Bjorn's mockups is that the Eclipse logo was
much too small. I think brand recognition is important.
- Maybe I'm just not seeing them, but are the Google ads on this page?
Users Page
- This page looks really, really nice.
- A nit: the text links under the pictures doesn't seem clickable, and
the mouse pointer changed to the text selection pointer instead of the
click pointer (hand). I think the text should be clickable.
- Although a link to downloads is on the home page and in the header,
but could you add a 'download' icon to the middle ring, between Plugins
and RCP catalog?
- I'm not sure what RCP catalog has to do with Users, but I may not
need to know.
- Documentation should link to www.eclipse.org/documentation
- There should also be a link to Newsgroups -- that's where all our
users discuss. Although it's accessible via the List Of Projects link,
that list needs a bit of love.
- I love the usage of 'sub-links' like you've done under
Training. You rock.
- Maybe I'm just not seeing them, but are the Google ads on this page?
Overall
We've lost the Pillars. I think the Pillars were the best thing
since sliced bread for our new users. My original thought was to
feature the Pillars
on the Users page.
FWIW, two of the Pillar pages (Languages and Entreprise) are amongst
the top-20 "Entry" Pages into our site, meaning users are either
bookmarking them, or other sites link to them directly.
- Am I the only one who doesn't want to lose the Pillars? If not,
where can we put them?
Thanks a bunch for all your work on this so far!

Afternoon Phoenix Dev.
I've been working on the Homepage / User page prototype for your
consumption.
Homepage - http://www.eclipse.org/home/index-test.php
Pretty much the same as the previous mockup we had. I've changed the bottom
spotlight to be the foundation news feed. This feed will now also include
the old spotlights we used to have on the homepage.
User Page - http://www.eclipse.org/community/index-new.php
I've changed the orbit rings a bit here to keep the similar ideas on the
same line.
I've also moved the Live / EPIC / Community News feeds to this page.
Any thoughts / comments / ideas are appreciated as always.
