RE: [phoenix-dev] Home page RC2

Gunnar,

I understand that you may not have seen all that we have done in regards to
this homepage redesign, but I can assure you that we have gone through the
design and iteration steps. To this end we have had at least 4 meetings over
the past 2 months on the homepage that have produced different iterations.

Just because we did not choose to show these iterations to the community as
whole does not mean that they were not completed. As Phoenix Committers we
must retain some control over the design and content that is to be layed
out.

There simply isnt enough time in a day to show the community every iteration
or design idea that we have. This leads to a too many cooks in the kitchen
scenario.

Also to clarify, what you call beta I call RC1. I also do not hold on to a
notion that RC2 means final candidate with no changes, we may end up at RC10
but I digress. Whether we are following a typical naming convention or not,
the point here is that we _need_ to finalize this homepage sooner rather
then later.

In a typical design phase there is not just one day time of review
comments. In fact, it's a multi-step, iterative process.

a - People are provided with 3 to 5 variations
b - People select one to continue with
c - a+b are repeated 3-5 times

However, for the homepage we only got one final design and people were
asked to provide comments. This process takes more time than the typical
design process and requires a lot more iterations than the process above.

I also think that we are missing some iterations.

2006-09-20 "alpha" release (bug 158009)
2006-10-03 "beta" release (bug 159588 was opened)
2006-10-10 RC2 release

So where is RC1? I also think that given the amount of changes between
"beta" and "RC2" it's not correct to call it "*Second* Release
Candidate". A RC2 is usually ready to become a final release without any
changes.

CU, Gunnar
