Re: [orbit-dev] Lifecycle of I-Build repositories?

FWIW, I have thought of a constructive thing to help ... and that's to lengthen the "clean up" period of the committers area builds, especially during rampdown.
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=409327

But, again, committers area is meant to be very temporary and not used in releases. In future, it would be far better to get "lined up" on a release schedule and get your contributions in to Orbit, in time for R-builds ... but, I know that's not always possible, just emphasizing the obvious.

Thanks,

I think the current situation was pretty well explained to you in bug 405276 (Comment 30) and documented to this mailing list,
http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/orbit-dev/msg03347.html

Even if someone implemented bug 409255 (or, its dup of bug 289092) I would not want it updated during Sim. Rampdown, to avoid potential for confusion or the wrong bundles ending up in Sim. Rel common repo.

But other than "rampdown", our retention policies are described in

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Promotion%2C_Release%2C_and_Retention_Policies

I'm sure that doesn't "satisfy" you ... but, giving you some of the data.

Please ask if more specific questions.

[orbit-dev] Lifecycle of I-Build repositories?

Hi all,

For SWTBot, I'd like to consume directly I-Builds from Orbit.
However, I noticed that the I-Builds of Orbit disappear "magically", without any clear reason. For example, the only current remaining I-build is older than the last one (which contains a good enough version of hamcrest for me to go on). So can anyone tell me what is the lifecycle for those I-Builds?
As a suggestion of improvements for very-early adopters, I opened this enhancement request:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=409255

I know I could make a copy of a repo I like, but it's just one more thing to do which is just an indirection (target-platform definition would link to download.eclipse.org/technology/swtbot instead of build.eclipse.org/orbit/I-build/) which make it less clear where does the stuff come from, and what is its "quality level".

Cheers,
