Wim, there is no underlying widget, the "button" is drawn because the whole component is a Canvas.

I like the idea of extending the ControlDecoration component of JFace.

I'm gonna go back on this after Christmas Eve.

That's something to investigate. Maybe this can be an opportunity to generalize ControlDecoration to something else than an image. I don't know the details of both APIs, but the goals seem pretty similar so there could be room for factorization.

I'll try to have a look later and report whether I find some opportunities here.
