Re: [mosquitto-dev] Mosquitto disconnect when trying to send retain message

Given the lack of any context in the original question, there was very little chance of any of the members of this list being able to give a useful answer (which probably explains the silence).

I can only assume the original poster is using the mosquitto client to connect to AWS, else this really wouldn't be the right place to ask.

This is the mosquitto-dev mailing list. I wonder why questions and issues regarding AWS IoT pop up here. The same thing happens in other projects.

AWS IoT has major limitations with regards to MQTT-3.1.1 functionality. A lot of key elements of MQTT are deliberately missing like Retained messages, QoS2, and persistent sessions.

The MQTT 5 spec will make AWS IoT conforming again because the spec lists the missing features as optional.

In the future of MQTT we will see a lot of applications which will run with only one broker or will become a lot more complicated to configure and maintain.

Your views and opinions are highly appreciated
