Re: [modeling-pmc] MDT UML2 Profiles Project Proposal

The expectation is that most of the profiles in the project will have "static" implementations, meaning they'll look a lot like other EMF-generated model projects.

Hi Wayne

At its most minimal, a UML Profile might be just 'one' UML file.

However similar minimality might reduce the MDT/UML2, MDT/OCL, MMT,QVTd, MMT/QVTo projects to 'one' file each too.

There is probably associated tooling, which one day might be highly model-driven, but in the short term may involve manual input.

I should have thought of Google. It's been a busy couple of weeks.

I'm more curious about the second part of my  question. What does a UML2 Profile look like? Is it just an ecore file, or is there more to it?

Wayne,

I know all there is a lot of modeling terminology (jargon you might say) but a simple Google search would answer your question. :-P

I'm sure that anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of UML would understand what a profile is, so I'm not sure if your question aims at suggesting that this term should be defined in order to be used...

What is a "UML2 Profile"? How does a profile manifest?

The Modeling project would like to propose creation of a new "UML2 Profiles" subproject of MDT. The proposed project is about providing implementations of "standard" UML profiles and a repository in/from which to discover/install them.

The draft proposal can be found at http://wiki.eclipse.org/UML2_Profiles_Proposal and the email thread where the Modeling PMC provided approval can be found at http://dev.eclipse.org/mhonarc/lists/modeling-pmc/msg02391.html. Please let me know if you need any more information.
