Yes, perfect, thanks Ian. Needless to say this is a worthwhile and needed effort. My $.02 and I imagine you'll agree that the issue of branding and packaging is as important as the technology. There are so many amazing things that can be done with the various tools and it would be a big boost to have them offered in a coherent integrated toolset.

Miles,
I have been helping organize the Modeling Platform working group, so
let me try to help provide some background.
Over the last year we have been working with some end-user companies
that are interested in using Eclipse Modeling technology for their
own internal use. However, the current projects are great point
solutions but not well integrated. This working group is looking
at what is required to build a more integrated platform and how it
would actually get built (resources and logistically).
The Zeligsoft survey was one of the inputs into the process, others
included detailed requirements from the different end user
companies. There has been a gap analysis completed and the next
step is a project plan. Once that is in place we need to secure
the resources to implement, which as you know is not trivial. :-)
All this is to say, it is very early days.
Regardless of the outcome, this working group would not have an
impact on the modeling project structure. The approach would be to
work with the existing projects or introduce a new project if
needed. Any changes to the modeling project structure would be
discussed and determined by the modeling PMC.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Sven, I wasn't feeling really dissed, ;) but I do want
to make sure that we have a home :) and wonder about
implications for separate parts of modeling project.
For the current AMP target and resources we have a tighter
focus (on modeling "the real world") and that may continue to be
the primary focus, but I'm thinking most particularly of the
Simulation and Model Execution categories. While AMP is not
really mature enough WRT to that aspect currently, and we're not
part of the larger scale corporate effort there are as mentioned
recently a number of ways in which AMP can become more of an
asset (even a differentiator) to the core capabilities. I'm
going to be following up on the Active Models thread (see
emft-dev) about the technology side of things, and I'm happy to
outline the possibilities with respect to the Modeling Platform
itself to anyone interested.

Hi Miles,
I think this just means that those projects weren't
interesting for the ZeligSoft survey. Which doesn't
necessarily mean that
nobody within the whole working group is interested in
AMP ;-)

Thanks Ken,
I think I have a sense of the scope of this
now, as part of the much needed and appreciated
effort to have a coherent set of core tools for
modeling. What I'm wondering now is what
implications this might have for the Modeling
Project per se, for example projects that show up
in Red on the evaluation sheets, such as B3, MWE
and.. AMP. Is there some intention / has there
been discussion about reorganization of the actual
Eclipse project structure?
cheers,

Hi,
I hate to admit to missing something that
must have been blindingly obvious to
everyone else, :) but there seems to be
some kind of working group out there that
is involved in planning for future
iterations of the modeling platform. I've
only been able to locate a ZeligSoft
report on google with recommendations,
etc.. I'd like to try to keep AMP aligned
or at least relevant to where things are
headed. Could someone point me to docs,
mailing list etc..?
cheers,
