[modeling-pmc] Re: M2M Proposal Status

Title: Re: M2M Proposal Status
Peter,

The PMC discussed this proposal and your reply on our call yesterday.  We are a bit concerned with the change in plan, and with the overall lack of attention paid to this important aspect of the Modeling project from a community and project leadership perspective.  Coincidently, Bjorn was doing his fall housecleaning yesterday and pinged us regarding the lack of activity this proposal has seen since its posting in July.

We would like to therefore update the proposal to reflect Compuware
s focus on the infrastructure component, officially add the ATL component, and indicate that Borland will work toward contributing our current implementation of the QVT specification to the M2M project.

Best Regards,
Rich

Rich,

We've discussed focus and priorities for the M2M project here at Compuware a bit. Originally we intended to create an open QVT-core implementation first. Now we're reconsidering, because that would take many months. Instead, we propose that we focus on the M2M infrastructure, into which we want to plug in the commercial OptimalJ QVT-core implementation.

Having ATL as another model transformation engine to plug in to this framework would be excellent, as it would validate that the framework can handle implementations from different origins. With ATL being a very well known open source M2M-transformer it would be a very valuable addition in itself.

I have been reallocated to another commercial release project for a few weeks. That delays me a bit, but despite that, I intend to write up a presentation for creation review this month, which I'll then send to you for internal review in the Modeling project first.

Regards,

   -Peter.

Subject: M2M Proposal Status

Hi Peter,

The question of the M2M proposal came up last week at ESE, so if you could give us an update that would be great.

Additionally, I was speaking with Jean regarding the possibility of expanding the proposal to include ATL.  What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Rich
