Re: [m2t-dev] M2T Components

Sven:

The original M2T provisioning request did request the creation separate components for JET, XPand, MTL as well as Common and Shared. Somehow, this got only partly implemented (we have one component - jet). The foundation is happy to correct this without a lot of paperwork. Either that, or remove all the components, and just have one committer list.

Some questions to you and the others:

1) Bernd has argued that formally having multiple components just adds project overhead. Informal components can still have leads. The only inconvenience is committer elections. I'm happy to have formal components. Have you convinced Bernd?

2) Right now we have two components shared/common which are empty. I think it makes sense to combine these into a single component - core. Can we put Backend into shared/common/core instead of creating a new component?

[m2t-dev] M2T Components

Hi Paul and all the others,

we already talked about this at EclipseCon:
We'ld like to have components for Xpand and the Backend.

We think this would be really helpful. For instance it would be easier to elect new committers. Also we can easily have separate mailinglists, newsgroups and bugzilla components. We just have to use the NPPR form ( http://www.eclipse.org/projects/project_provisioning_request.php)
In addition we find that it might be helpful to have leads for the different components, so it is clear who is responsible for the architecture and decisions made by the particular team as well as responsible for keeping metadata, etc. up to date.
I just created a component for TMF and found that it was really easy, because I just had to fill out the mentioned form.
Of course we'll have to write an announcement (I ddn't need to for TMF because everything was already described in the project's proposal), but as the creation of components has also been mentioned in the initial M2T proposal this shouldn't be a problem.

What do you think?

atb,
Sven
