Re: [m2m-iwg] m2m-iwg Digest, Vol 1, Issue 4

Dear All,

As I'm just on my way to DevoXX and the time of the call for CET is a bit early in the afternoon, I won't be able to join it today.

I would be interested to participate in one of the joint talks for M2M / IoT, and plan at least one session proposal involving Pachube with sensors on Arduino and/or Android and how IoT portals like Pachube can benefit from standardized Unit notations like the UCUM standard.
Currently many sensors use a gross mix of notation, just for "temparature" you'll find "°C" (which would be the correct UCUM "print" code) as well as "C" (which actually stands for "Coulomb" the standard unit of Electric Charge ;-) as well as other variations like "oC" which tries to mimic the correct code missing Unicode support IMO.

Since the submission deadline is at the end of this week, please let me know, if that sounds of interest to the WG and other members consider co-participating on such proposal.

On a high level, I'd say, both Arduino and systems like Pachube may be partly considered "Hobbyist community", though especially the latter tends towards serious use cases like Radiation Levels in some countries or counties. Given how operators often kept things under wraps after disasters like Chernobyl or Fukujima, I'd say some of these data feeds are serious cases of OpenData and Public Safety provided by an Open Community rather than a simple hobby for a few geeks.

Following Eclipse DemoCamp Vienna on Dec 2, on the 3rd, I'm also invited to an Open Data working group at a Vienna Council event regarding "Commons". Should anyone attend Vienna DemoCamp or be in the area, I'd be happy to have people join that event. As this isn't before the beginning of next month, if of interest for one of the next calls, I'd try to join one, if I could find a meeting room to use. German 0800 sounds good, that should make it easier.

Kind Regards,
Werner Keil

Hi,

Here is a suggestion of the topics we should cover during our call:

* EclipseCon feedback
* BoF session
* "Model-oriented" talks
* Hobbyist community
* Paho proposal: status, new interested parties
* Koneki update
* EclipseCon 2012
* Agree on the joint IWG talk proposal
* Other talks we should propose?
* Next steps
* Interested parties: update?
* Priorities definition

Cheers,
Ben -

All,

Unfortunately I will not be able to join the call, as I am speaking at a
conference.

I would suggest adding a conversation about Mosquitto (e.g. an MQTT
server-side) and enabling a developer sandbox for M2M on eclipse.org
infrastructure. We can provide the infrastructure, but someone (Arlen?) will
have to put up the server and babysit it. Our sysadmins will be interested
in hearing about the scalability, authentication and security aspects of the
sandbox.

Thanks.

I'll be glad to comment on the use/setup/management of Mosquito.
