[higgins-dev] RE: Plan for IdAS Google Context Provider

Mohamad,

Thanks very much.  I've entered Ipzilla item 2533 for GData Java Client.  By the way, do you know any of the people working on this Google project?

Hi Mary,

Many thanks for starting the legal review process! Just to clarify, we're using the latest GData Java client library (gdata-src.java-1.20.0.java.zip) but the jar names still have 1.0. Please find attached the GData.zip which contains only the source code this CP depends on. (Please change the attached file extension to .zip)

Thanks,
Mohamad Raja

Hi Mohamad,

These are licensed under Apache 2.0, so that is very good.  The link you pointed me to indicated that 1.0 was deprecated and that 1.2 was now current. The process for getting Eclipse legal approval for a third party component is version specific, so we need to make sure that we request the version that you will actually want to use.  Usually this is the most recent stable version. As part of the legal review process I also need to provide the source code for the requested third party elements.  It would be great if you could send me a zip file with the source code and only the source code that you are actually using. (For example without files for sample code, if you are not using any of the sample code, etc.)

Hi Mary,

Yes, for Google Contacts CP we are using GData Java client library available from Google code (http://code.google.com/p/gdata-java-client/downloads/list) which is not part of Higgins. To be specific, we depend on the following GData libraries:

  - gdata-client-1.0.jar
  - gdata-client-meta-1.0.jar
  - gdata-core-1.0.jar
  - gdata-media-1.0.jar
  - gdata-contacts-1.0.jar
  - gdata-contacts-meta-1.0.jar

Thanks,
Mohamad Raja

thanks Mohammad - M4 is fine for this. If you can update bug accordingly that will be great and I will also update the M4 wiki page for this .

Hi Brian,

We have a fairly working code of IdAS Google CP, but we are awaiting Oracle Legal approval. Would it be fine if we can target this feature for M4 build and I can update the bug accordingly?

Hi all - as follow up from earlier email thread to Higgins-dev list - if this IdAS Google CP code is ready - I would like to include this in M3 build this week.

Is it ready to go and checked into 1.1 branch?

Hi Brian, Jim,

Thanks very much for the links & suggestions! As you suggested, I logged Bug 229639 in Bugzilla with relevant details to track the Google Contacts CP enhancement. We shall send our queries on the CP implementation to Higgins-Dev list at the earliest.

Thanks for your time,
Raja

I believe the ideal (and prescribed) way for this to work is for the work to be mailed to the higgins-dev list and then any existing committer can pick it up and push it into the repository.  It's likely that that person will be myself or Tom D, but theoretically could be any committer.

One reason for the contribution to come thru the higgins-dev list is so there's a public trail leading back to the actual coder (this way it doesn't look like Tom or I are producing the code when we're actually only checking it in).  I think there's some other 'paper-trail' related reason as well but it escapes me right now.

Hi Uppili, Parvez, Vikas, Raja - thank you for your time today to discuss the Google Contacts IdAS CP. As mentioned, below are some Higgins links that will be useful to your team as you continue to engage on developing and contribute the this new CP:

1 - The link to join the Higgins Internet Relay Chat (IRC) chat channel is located here:http://www.eclipse.org/higgins/getting_started.php. There is usually a quorum of Higgins developers and commiters on-line where this channel can be useful to get some immediate

2- The other IdAS CP projects are stored here: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Components#IdAS_Context_Providers . I would image this is where Tom would have you post your eventual contribution for Google contacts CP.

3 - The Higgins home page is located here: http://www.eclipse.org/higgins/

4 - To sign up for Higgins-Dev email list you can go here: https://dev.eclipse.org/mailman/listinfo/higgins-dev

As mentioned the best way to get on-going support as you develop this CP is thru either the IRC or by sending emails to the Higgins-Dev list. For the short term - it would be best to have your team contribute code as soon as your are ready (does not have to be 100% completed) to Tom and he can commit it to CVS as a Higgins contribution.

Thanks again for your participation and contribution to Higgins!!

regards....Brian

thanks All -

I have a conference call number we can use - but I'm not sure it will work for international calls. Does someone have a bridge phone number they know will work for international calls? We also have skype we can use if people would prefer that.

Looks like Tue 4/29 would work better for us. So I *think* the time would be:

- 9am PDT (Jim)
- Noon EDT (Brian)
- 6pm Ukraine (Valery - Sergey is out next week)
- 9:30pm Bangalore time.

Is this correct and work for everyone?

At this point, those times on Mon and Tues are free for me.  Why is everyone using Standard (and not Daylight) time in their mails -- it confuses me.

Sorry I used a proprietary acronym IDC.  It is India Development Center (Bangalore).

In any case, please let me know what time would for you.

Looks like both Thursday and Friday this week will not work out.  Also, Raja and Vikas are in Bangalore, so that makes scheduling a fun activity :-).

The ideal times are 8:00 - 10:30 PST.  This will be post dinner, pre-bed time in IDC.  Could you (Jim, Sergeyand Brian) please check if 9:00 PST or 10 PST work for you on either Monday or Tuesday of next week?  Please let us know.

Thanks Uppili - The people that we would want on this initial call would be Jim S. and Sergey as the CP domain experts.

Jim and Sergey - are there any dates/times this week that are good for you to have a brief conference call?

Hi Uppili,

Thanks! The document was reviewed in yesterday's meeting and they're fine with the doc, just that we had some discussion on the use cases. I fixed the class hierarchy to a certain extent in the attached document as it's difficult to accommodate it in the doc. Can you please schedule a kick-off meeting with Higgins and let us know the  time?

Thanks,
Raja
