Re: [higgins-dev] Message Globalization in Higgins IdAS code

hi David - as follow up from this topic on the Higgins call today:
  • I have created a landing spot on the Higgins Developing section here (http://wiki.eclipse.org/Higgins_Committers_and_Contributors#Developing) for documenting the Internationalization/Globalization requirements. Currently this only has some very basic comments with some reference links to other Eclipse project requirements. You could use this wiki location to post proposals.
  • You gratefully volunteered to make a proposal for Internationalization/Globalization that Higgins could adopt universally as part of your focus on IdAS based project.
  • Mary and I will work with you to help move this proposal with the Higgins team as well as help drive the follow-on component by component assessment against these (tbd) requirements and define and schedule any necessary component enhancement work.

regards...Brian

Would it be possible to tee the NLS discussion as an agenda item on the tomorrow's dev call?  Our integration of IdAS requires both NLS enablement and translation in the near future.  We are very keen to help out to get the enablement.

Thanks,

Jim,

I tried to start "globalizing" via the org.eclipse.higgins.messages project,
but I am not sure whether that is as well thought out as it should be -
perhaps we can try to figure out what the "eclipse" way is and follow that?

Regards,
Mike

Is there an eclipse-way, or higgins-way of doing localization?

Hi All,
We found that most of the messages are used for creating exception
or similar usages are hard coded. This is limiting us from claiming our
product to the customer that we support internalization of messages in our
product.
Is there any plan for moving these messages to a resource file and then
supporting for all major locales ? I am sure you all will have some strategy
on resolving this known issue.

Thanks and Regards,
Prakash
