Here's what I got from the Higgins.owl discussion (abstracted, and only pertaining to DS attributes):
A DigitalSubject has a set of Attributes
An Attribute has a type (i.e. name)
An Attribute has a set of Data
Data is of a specified type (literal like: String, Int, etc., or complex) An attribute has a set of Metadata
Metadata is of a specified type (literal like: String, Int, etc., or complex)
I'm actually making the last two up. I'm unsure if the proposal is to have n Metadata arcs, or a single Metadata arc which itself has n data arcs. The former causes all Metadata to have the same property name "metadata". The latter adds one more hoop to jump through in the RDF. A third possibility is to say that an Attribute has a set of data and any other property is automatically considered to be "metadata".
As soon as I get clarification on the metadata part, I can start proposing some API changes.
