[gef-dev] help ,class not found

i downloaded the example "shapes" from 
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/gef/downloads/
i want to know how the program works,so i create a project and put the src 
into the
project,and copy the plugin.xml to the project directory.
when i run a new workbench, it always reports the Class Not Found 
Exception,if i copy 
shapes.jar into the project directory ,it works ok. Why?
