Re: [epp-dev] About extending UDC and unknown user and password for UsageData.psf

You understand correctly.

The UDC itself is still running on some workstations. But the server is not actually collecting the data any more.

Dears,

If it helps to save time I already read the reasons from an old thread (that I just noticed it was recently updated) at [1].

What is there mentioned seems to answer my two questions as of (1) the main causes were the trade-off between the necessary effort being put to maintain it and the weight of the data being stored on the server versus the value of the acquired data to the eclipse foundation. Also it seemed to me as an answer for (2) is no data at all is collected anymore. I would just appreciate a confirmation from your side if that I understood it right.

Thank you Markus, since it has already been archived then I would be interested again on knowing (if possible) (1) why it has already been archived and (2) what is being to collect user data (or if it is just not collected anymore).

All the above links are pointing to the CVS source code location, but this (old) code has been migrated to Git lately.
The new location is here:

  http://git.eclipse.org/c/epp/org.eclipse.epp.usagedata.git/

The usagedata collector itself is not supported any more and is not included in any of the Juno packages.

Thanks,
Markus

The user name is "anonymous" with a blank password.

Unfortunately, the documentation is a little thin. The project relies heavily on JavaDoc in the code.

There is a little information about the data that is collected in the wiki [1].

The code has not been touched in a very long time and is due to be archived.

Hi,

I'm new around this list, although not new to eclipse. I have been interested on eclipse plugins lately, in particular the UDC. I come cross some links about extending UDC but they seem either outdated or as presentations (which would be helpful if I could find something in more details before of reading them). In particular I was looking for anything that could assist me on making sense of the code. I saw that on 2009 it was being considered to provide an easy way to extend UDC as well and some emails even suggesting not continuing it because the data didn't seem to pay of the effort versus the analysis it was providing back, so I would like to know the status of this if possible.

My main question for this email thou is the username and password that I am requested trying to load UDC on my eclipse to see the source code and build it. I used the Team Project Set suggested at the  FAQ http://www.eclipse.org/epp/usagedata/faq.php and followed the instructions http://wiki.eclipse.org/PSF on how to set this since I am new to setting projects this way, but I am requested a user and password I don't apparently seem to have or is available on the page.

Thank you for your attention.

Best Regards,
