Re: [epf-dev] Do we have the BUP model tailored to the development of EPF Project?

Hi Bhuricha,

We're glad you are interested in participating in this project!
For EPF, we are following OpenUP/Basic (formerly called BUP) and its principles, so in terms of your research, you may want to use OpenUP/Basic for your simulation and modeling.

We are essentially following OpenUP/Basic, and we also use the project infrastructure and high level process (governance) provided by Eclipse Organization. For this variant, we've documented guidelines, created plans and documents as you can find in CVS (under design and docs folders) and Web site, but haven't captured this variant as a plug-in yet.

A few examples of process and tools support:
- Vision document for EPF Composer (http://www.eclipse.org/epf/tool_component/tool_vision.php)
- Bugzilla as the Work Items List
- CVS as the version control system
- Guidelines for Change Management, Requirements Management, Configuration Management, Text Style Guide, Plug-in Development Guide (all available in CVS and Web site)
- Project Plans, meeting minutes and assessment review (also available through Web site).
- Before donation to Eclipse, in IBM we used tools like RequisitePro, ClearQuest, ClearCase, Rational Software Architect and others. Also, we created various documents, including use-case specifications for the tool (although at this time we haven't made this documentation part of the donated material).

As you asked, Per Kroll (IBM) leads the project, supported by other committers customizing/applying the process needed by this project.

Please let us know what areas you are interested in or type of help you can provide.
And feel free to bring this to discussion during the next face-to-face meeting in Vancouver, BC. -- or via this forum.

[epf-dev] Do we have the BUP model tailored to the development of        EPF Project?

Dear All,

I am a Ph.D student in Computer Science at Portland State University.  Over here we do research on software process simulation and modeling.  I am interested in modeling and simulating the software development process used by the EPF project.  My idea is to try to convert the information for the EPF, BUP or potentially the SPEM2.0 into the model that we have.  Our model is primary used to help executive and process engineer evaluate the project performance using the software process model.

I would like to participate in the process engineering team of the EPF in designing the BUP for the EPF project.  I would like to see if the simulation model can help with the management decision in the future.

Could you please let me know who is working on managing the project and process of the EPF project?

Best Regards,
Bhuricha
