Thanks kindly for your answer.  I was afraid of that.

I'm aware I can use reflection to investigate the annotations--if they're present.  But I can't easily take into consideration XML overrides.

Sure do wish there were a standardized helper class to do this for me--that's why I was looking at the metamodel API in the first place....
