[eclipse.org-members-committers] Project Updates

Greetings folks. There's a lot going on this week, so please (especially committers) read all the way the bottom.

New Proposals

We've had some exciting new proposals added in January.

First up is e(fx)clipse - JavaFX tooling and runtime for Eclipse [1]. e(fx)clipse (pronouced "ef x clips") provides tools for building JavaFX applications, including wizards and templates for projects, a specialized editor that understands the JavaFX specific CSS properties, and a specialized XML editor providing autocompletion based on information gathered from JDT. The project also includes JavaFX-renderers for Eclipse 4, allowing developers to leverage all parts of the Eclipse 4 Application Platform (Dependency Injection, Application Model, Command-Framework, ...) without using SWT.

Next is Eclipse Bundle Recipes [2] (EBR) provides template files for creating bundles for open source Jars. Scoping the project to templates rather than the resulting bundles facilitates bundle creation for a wide variety of open source projects, not just those with licenses acceptable to the Eclipse Foundation. Only templates whose creation and use do not violate the license of the original Jar will be permitted. I have high hopes that the technology developed by EBR may help us re-imagine how the Orbit project works [3].

Reviews

We have several reviews running this week (concluding on February 6/2013).
  • Eclipse UML Profiles Repository Creation Review [4]
  • Jetty 9.0 Release Review [5]
  • RAP 2.0 Review [6]
  • Lyo 1.1 Release Review [7]
Also up this week is the creation review for the first project for the PolarSys Industry Working Group (IWG) [8] . We're pretty excited about this creation of our first real project in the new forge.
  • 3P - PolarSys Packaging Project Creation Review [9]
Kepler Dates

Project leads and committers, please take note of the following dates.

Feb 8/2013 - CQ deadline for Kepler; CQs for participating projects received by this date will be placed in the IP team's priority queue.
May 24/2013 - Deadline to submit IP Logs for Kepler releases
June 12/2013 - Kepler Uber Release review
June 26/2013 - Kepler release

Project plans should already be in place.

Project Management Infrastructure (PMI) and the Portal

We've been working on a replacement for the developer portal. This effort has been branded the Project Management Infrastructure [A] (PMI). The PMI has actually been running in test mode for some time. I'm very grateful to those in the community who have provided feedback.

Test time is over. We loaded the server with real data today and over the next few days and weeks, we'll start phasing over to the new infrastructure.

We'll start with project summary pages. The "project metadata" functionality in the developer portal will be shut down and you'll be directed to make metadata changes (e.g. project description, scope, mailing lists, releases, etc.) directly on the new project pages. In the short term, we'll continue to use the portal for developer elections, retiring committers, creating CQs, etc.

I will report our status in my blog [B] as we migrate over to the new infrastructure.

As always, if you have questions, please ask.

Thanks,

Wayne
