[eclipse.org-members-committers] Projects update, February 10/2012

We have several reviews running this week.

First up is the Eclipse Platform's User Assistance [1] subproject which is engaging in a Restructuring Review [2] to merge the User Assistance subproject into the Platform UI subproject. With this merge, the committer teams and code will merge into a single project. In fact, the code won't even move as part of the merge, so this action should have no significant impact on the community.

The Gemini Naming [3] project is engaging in a 1.0 Release and Graduation Review [4]. The Gemini Naming project implements support for using the Java Naming and Directory Interface within an OSGi environment.

The EGit [5] and JGit [6] are engaging in a 1.3 Release Review [7]. The EGit 1.3 New and Noteworthy document [8] lists numerous improvements and enhancements with this release.

Code Recommenders [9] is having their 0.5 Release Review [A]. The project's website provides a pretty concise definition of what the project aims to provide:
Code Recommenders supports developers on learning new APIs by providing tools which learn correct API usages or valuable API usage patterns by analyzing example code and re-integrates this regained knowledge back into your IDE by means of intelligent code completion, extended javadocs, smart bug detectors, stacktrace search engines and others...
I have been contacted by a researcher who is doing a study about Eclipse SDK API usage in Eclipse plug-ins. The aim of the research is to understand the co-evolution of Eclipse and its third-party plug-ins. To understand Eclipse SDK API usage better, it is necessary to have first-hand data from the plug-in developers. To this end, he is developing a survey for developers.

In order to increase acceptability as well as conceptual input of the survey, he needs some developers to contribute and discuss the ideas for the questionnaire. If you would like to take part in the discussion, please contact John through this e-mail address: johnxu21@xxxxxxxxx

I look forward to seeing you at EclipseCon!
