Feedback on demo camps
Karlsruhe, Esslingen, Toulouse - all positive, technically oriented, format varies by location
- how to encourage presenters to volunteer?  directly inviting seems to be the most effective - few volunteers

S&S planning a new English Eclipse magazine
 - possibly publishing "best of the demo camps" - more info to follow from Nadja

EclipseTime 2009, Toulouse
- last week May or early June
- event will be opened to up to 10 sponsors
- 200 people - managers, technical folks
- Jocya will send info

Create a 'slide library' - propose content - Andrea Mörike, Helge Brzoska, Joern Weigle
- need space for slides - marketing wiki ?  Joern will follow up with Ian
- do any members in this group have generic marketing materials for decision makers they could donate?
- what do we have, what is missing, can we produce what is needed?

Insurance day - next step is a kick off call for organizers
- Joern will send out invite for 19 Dec and a further call in January with agenda items and things to discuss

Banking Day New York, December 9th - Ian
- 40 registrations until November 4th, growing 2-3 per day

Banking Day London, Feb 10th or 12th - Ian
- location is fixed now - will be announced by 19 December
- program is in progress

Banking Day Amsterdam - Jörn
- Industrial TSI is interested in organizing a Banking Day in Amsterdam
- WeigleWilczek will support
- Might be held closely before / after EBD London to reduce travel for speakers

Banking day in Paris - Katherina Streater / Joern have approached Ian and it will go ahead later in 2009

- Eclipse Banner is now available for shared use by European members.
- Eclipse Demo Camps - check out the November 2008 Demo Camps - http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse_DemoCamps_November_2008.  The camps are publicized on eclipse.org and each camp is supported up to USD 500.00 by the Eclipse Foundation

5 - Ideas for fututre initiatives

- Theme days - eg. Banking Day, future Insurance Day is being planned
- Stammtisch - organizing and promoting
    - Software and Support Verlag has announced the last ones in Bonn and Frankfurt on their web properties
- Image Advertising - deferred to the group to bring this forward it if seems feasible as an initiative for the WG
- Country-specific programs
    - Information about Eclipse outreach in various European regions and countries

4 - Communications initiatives

  • Changing the sell to be suitable for runtimes - Eclipse communications has been geared towards selling tools

  • New customers need to be educated in the eclipse approach to issues such as liability, IP protection

  • Overall: A business communications strategy should complement the technical communications strategy and activities

  • generate common press releases, mentioning several companies that offer Open Source products & services targeted at one sector such as the banking industry or insurance companies

  • identify and use a news wire for the distribution of common press releases in Europe or in selected European countries

  • adapt key data & information about Open Source for the European Market: - Sort out and communicate the results of surveys regarding the Open Source market with regard to their relevance for Europe and/or selected European countries

  • communicate the importance of key events like the annual release train of the Eclipse Foundation to the press in Europe, pointing out why this is relevant for the European market

5 - Other initiatives
  • Creating bundles for verticals might ease the adoption - the banking stack

  • (Member) Success stories

    • Background information on vertical industries – e.g. RCP use cases

    • Mission critical eclipse based projects

    • success statistics – e.g. eclipse is used in 90% of banks in xx

  • eclipse.org/sales package: provide more information which supports sales
