[cosmos-dev] FW: Cosmos Picture from yesterday's discussion

Here is the whiteboard picture from yesterday’s discussion. The “brown” cylinders are existing data stores. Their collectors have whatever existing private interfaces they have between the resources they monitor and the data stores where they record them. The collectors may also expose “new” APIs both to expose new data and entertain directed queries.

The vertical wsdm-ep is the interface that exposes one or more data stores through an abstraction metaphor. The “broker” is a wsdm-ep who is basically the marriage maker for consumers and producers. Consumers contact the broker to get a list of producers who are willing to provide the data that the consumer wants. The broker is responsible for returning an array of qualifying producers. The consumers can choose to have an interaction with producers to refine their interest and then send a query to the “chosen” producer.
