Re: [cdt-dev] heads up: 106036

O.K. I got it. I'll do the build tonight. I don't think we have plans for an major retesting since all of the changes have been pretty minor. I don't think we should wait past Monday for RC3 since RC4 is planned for Friday and we should get the wider community involved in testing before then.

Thanks,
Doug

P.S. As for releasing during summer, Erich Gamma is right on the money when he says that they manage the Platform release to be finished no later than the end of June. Something else to consider when planning releases in the future...

I guess what I'm saying is do an RC3 re-build today. We won't close on
whether it becomes RC3 until at least Monday anyway, so on Monday we'll
figure out what's going on and either ask for yet another rebuild (fun
fun fun), or move it to future. Just don't call a vote to make it
officially RC3 first thing Monday morning :-P Kind of hokey really but
still technically within the process ;-)

Sorry to jerk everyone around. This whole releasing when everyone is
taking vacations thing really doesn't work very well I'm afraid.

As you mention, I'd rather not hold up testing.

At the same time, we had decided no more code changes past RC3. Are
you
recommending that we include this in RC4? Or should we wait until
Monday
to decide on that and continue with the RC3 build today?

Cheers,
Doug

Things have gotten a bit more complicated than we anticipated and I
don't want to hold up testing unnecessarily. My feeling is to
retarget
this to 3.0 for now rather than RC3 and let the build go forward.

Mikhail has now gone off on vacation. As far as I know Leo is back
Monday. I'm running out of bright ideas at the current moment as to
how
to fix this in a palatable way for 3.0. Rather than push too hard
and
make a hacked up blunder in order to get a fix in today, I think it's
prudent to wait until I can confer with Leo, especially since we have
a
self imposed policy on MBS from now to GA to have mandatory reviews
by
the others before any check-ins occur. On Monday we'll decide if/how
this gets fixed, or move it to Future.

If anyone feels strongly that we should continue to delay the build
to
wait for further word on this, speak up now.

Thanks,
Doug.

Yes, sorry... I got tied up yesterday aft :-(

I see now that Mikhail agrees that we should fix
this for 3.0, so that's
quorum from the MBS committers. If there are no
strenuous objections
from the other committers I will fix this today.

Hi Chris,

Do you have a update on this?

Thanks,
Doug

We might ask for a rebuild for this today...

rather

than waste time
doing multiple rebuilds it would probably be

good to

delay the rebuild
until we decide whether this is going into 3.0.

I

hope we will close on
that by the afternoon.
