Why does CDT need to distinguish between 32 & 64 bit targets?

I can't think of a reason offhand why CDT needs to worry about 32 vs. 64 bit.

*If* this information is needed for CDT(i.e. some representation of
addresses that cover 32 & 64 is impossible), then it could come from a
GUI choice rather than being sniffed out of a file.
