Re: [birt-dev] New BIRT Logo

I will weigh in, but I don't have a strong opinion, which was why I was keeping my mouth shut.

I am not a big fan of the color palette, it is bright with no sense of why it is bright.
I don't like the change in case in the letters. Good business intelligence and reporting will always use visual clues to highlight things of importance. Calling out the i in BIRT, both with colors and case change says look at the 'i' it is important, but it is not really important, just different to be different.
I agree with Wim the Font doesn't do much, I realize this is an image, but if we use a standard Font than we have some advantages in further branding where we can repeat that font and add significance. I think the logo should be made up of the image (which is fine) and text using a repeatable font.
There is no tie back to Eclipse in general, as an Eclipse project if BIRT's logo can recognize that it would be good. Yes I know it is hard to find anything definitive that says this is Eclipse.

I am happy with the old logo, but once again I don't want to make this a huge deal.

Business Intelligence Reporting Tool is very specific and contains all the keywords a designer needs. I'm not too worried that designers can't understand what we do.

However, I'd rather keep it in our own hands if possible.

Christophe's logo:

I think it's a good start but it needs some work:

* I like the graphic, it is suited for icons and stuff
* The letters are a bit wobbly (see the box I drew)
* The font... Meh..
* Why is the i lower case and red, why are the other letters green? What is the idea?
* What is the link to Eclipse? Maybe we can use the colors or do something with the logo

Cheers,

Wim
