BIRT 2.1.1 Planning

BIRT 2.1.1 is tentatively planned for a September 28, 2006 release. This will be a coordinated release with a number of other Eclipse projects. Detailed milestones will be the subject of upcoming cross-project planning calls.

BIRT 2.1.1 is a maintenance release only, and the development team is already working on bugs that will be addressed in this release. For a list of the bugs that are already addressed in, and are scheduled for, this release, refer to Bugzilla.

BIRT 2.2/3.0

The next BIRT major release will be BIRT 2.2 or 3.0 -- with the final feature set determining the release designation.

From an planning perspective, Wenfeng and Paul have the action item to come up with a planning timeline and get back to the PMC within the next couple of weeks. No progress has been made on this yet.

InetSoft Contribution

The InetSoft team have been working on addressing a number of bugs in BIRT, specifically focused on the PDF emitter. They have submitted patches to 10+ bugs and these have been reviewed and checked in by existing BIRT Committers.

Based on the quantity and quality of the work being done by the InetSoft team, the existing BIRT Committers have nominated two developers from InetSoft to become Committers (see below).

InetSoft are now actively working on a new MS Word Emitter for BIRT. The timeline has yet to be determined but Larry Liang from InetSoft will get back to the PMC with an indication if this is a candidate BIRT 2.1.1 project.

New Committers

The following new committers have been proposed and recommended to the BIRT PMC by the BIRT project teams. Following the process laid out in the BIRT project charter, the development team has asked for a vote from the existing committers on the nomination and have received at least 3 positive votes and no negative votes. The nominees have already been active in the BIRT project community:

Based on the contributions he has made, the report engine team recommends him as a new committer for BIRT project.
