Minutes

BIRT 2.1 Planning

BIRT 2.1 is part of the Callisto Simultaneous release and is targeted for release at the same time as Callisto (~ June 2006).

The initial BIRT 2.1 plan has been posted on the Eclipse.org pages (see http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/Project_plan_R2_1.php). This plan has the initial high level projects. As with any plan, updates will be posted as the plan evolves.

In addition, Bugzilla has a detailed list of individual items assigned to BIRT 2.1.

The PMC should also review the detailed Bugzilla entries assigned to BIRT 2.1 and also those not assigned to BIRT 2.1 to determine if any assignment changes are needed.

BIRT 2.1 and Eclipse 3.0.x/3.1

Since BIRT 2.1 will be part of Callisto, this means that we will be specifically supporting the Eclipse 3.2 Platform release and will no longer support Eclipse 3.0.x or 3.1. In the short term, this will limit the commercial products BIRT supports since many are based on Eclipse 3.0.x or Eclipse 3.1. The PMC recognizes that this is less than ideal, but concluded that the medium to long term benefits of supporting Eclipse 3.2 are more important.

Of course, BIRT 2.0 will continue to support Eclipse 3.0.x and 3.1.

Web Report Designer (WRD)

The BIRT project pages include a description of the Web Report Designer (WRD) part of the original BIRT project proposal. While this continues to be part of the project scope, it is not something that the BIRT PMC intends to address in the short term (at least thru 2006).

There have been some questions on the Newsgroup regarding this part of the project. Paul C will update the project pages to reflect the fact that this is not something that we are currently developing.

Report Object Model (ROM) Documentation

Scott pointed out that the ROM documentation needs updated to be a higher level document. This would be more useful than it's current low-level form. Scott would open a Bugzilla entry for this so that it can be tracked.

New Committers

The following new committers have been proposed and recommended to the BIRT PMC by the BIRT project teams. Following the process laid out in the BIRT project charter, the development team has asked for a vote from the existing committers on each of these nominations and have received at least 3 positive votes and no negative votes. The nominations are:

Jason Hellman (Innovent Solutions)
Mike Boyersmith (IBM)
Yuejie Chen (Actuate)
Xiong Zhang (Actuate)

The PMC unanimously approves these new Committers for the project. Welcome on board!
