Minutes
BIRT 2.0 M2 Update
BIRT 2.0 M2 was released last Friday, the 28th. For a list of what is in this Milestone release, see the project plan page at http://eclipse.org/birt/index.php?page=project/PlanAndDeliverables.html. This page includes link to a "New and Noteworthy" page for this Milestone.

Sue Lee has sent an email to the BIRT News email list letting everyone know about the release availability. Jason W has also blogged this in a number of places.

New Committer
The BIRT team have proposed and recommended to the BIRT PMC a new Committer, Yasuo Doshiro. Doshiro has made valuable contributions to the BIRT release in the area of internationalization and will continue to do so for future releases. The team held a vote on the nomination and have at least 3 positive votes and no negatives.

The PMC unanimously approved to have Doshiro be a Committer for the project. Welcome on board!
Process for Encouraging New Contributors
Jason W has been working with someone who might be interested in becoming a contributor at some point and wanted to know the process for this.

The process for becoming a Committer in the BIRT project is the same as other Eclipse projects. The model is based on merit and the typical approach is that the potential committer will start by logging Bugzilla entries and then potentially proposing fixes/patches via Bugzilla. From there, the person gains more visibility and respect in the BIRT community and ultimately may be nominated as a Committer. More details can be found as part of the Eclipse Development Process at http://www.eclipse.org/org/processes/Guidelines_for_Eclipse_Development_Process/.
