Thanks for taking a shot at this. That certainly
sounds reasonable, at least for the POC Java based developement. It doesn't happen to be what I currently have installed but probably I should get the newer versions. It is definately an advantage if we are all
working with the same base platform.
When we address security we will need to look again at
WebService support. Axis2 looks like the best bet for WS-Security but it
is not complete yet. I haven't tried it
Strictly it is not
correct to say ALF "recommends" the Active
BPEL engine but it is the engine we will use for now. It is the
most complete open source engine we have tested so far and it seems to be very stable. Please note that it is distributed under a GPL license
so care should be taken to ensure there is no mixing of code bases. The
Oracle engine is not open source as far as I am
aware.
We have had some issues with the Oracle Process Designer but it is probably the right place to start given that it is in process
of becoming an Eclipse project.
For a really quick introduction to BPEL this
presentation may be helpful if you haven't seen it
already.

Hello
Alfers,
My goal is to have a guideline-tidy
ALF dev environment. I’ve read through the docs and here’s what I plan to
use:
- Java JDK
1.5
- Eclipse
3.1
- Tomcat 5.5.9 /Axis 1.2.1 for Event
Manager/Service Flow WS and client jars
- ActiveBPEL 2.0 for Service Flow
Engine
- Oracle BPEL Process Designer
10.1.2 Eclipse Plugin
The Oracle Process Designer plugin
appeared to install fine into eclipse 3.1. The Oracle BPEL engine appeared
not to support tomcat, plus ALF recommended ActiveBPEL
anyway.
Any comments,
advice?
The Oracle site has some good tutorials on BPEL, including a hello world project:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/bpel/htdocs/dev_support.html#tutorials
Any recommended reading for ramping
up quick on BPEL?
Thanks,
Bob
