Description Keith Hankin CLA 2005-02-27 15:56:42 EST
When I rebuild my project, the status indicates 0% built and stays that way. It
seems to be stuck in the "copying resources" stage. If I do the rebuild in the
foreground and click on the "Cancel" button, the button grays out, but the
rebuild does not actually cancel and the progress bar keeps on animating and
indicates 0% built. This is a huge problem because I cannot do builds at all,
since saves get blocked behind them.

I found this problem with both 3.0.1 and 3.1M5a. I tried deleting my project,
including .project, .classpath and bin directory, recreating the project, yet
the problem continues to occur.

When you say "both 3.0.1 and 3.1 M5a", you mean on same workspace or different ones?
If this is on same workspace I would say that there's something wrong with your
file system in this workspace which blocks resources copying. I would also
advice you to avoid to use same workspace with 2 so different versions...
If not, it's really surprising as 3.0.1 is not known to have so critical build
issue...!?

By the way, I think a possible workaround could be to start eclipse on a brand
new workspace and check-out again your project from your CVS repository or
recreate them and import sources from File System...
Comment 2 Keith Hankin CLA 2005-03-05 18:27:39 EST
I had the problem with 3.0.1 *before* I ever even downloaded 3.1M5a, so it's not
a question of using the same workspace with two revisions of the software. And I
*did* clean out the project and recreate it, yet still got the same problem.

OK, so I change version for this bug...
What about create a brand new workspace?
Another question in your initial workspace: does this issue happen with other
project of this workspace or only with one?
To help us to understand this, can you start eclipse with console (-consoleLog
in command line), make a snapshot of VM and attach it to this bug, thx
Comment 4 Keith Hankin CLA 2005-03-07 00:46:09 EST
How do I take a snapshot of the VM?
Comment 5 Frederic Fusier CLA 2005-03-07 04:22:05 EST
In the console window (ie. MS-DOS one) just hit Ctrl+Pause. If you're using Sun
VM, you'll see outputs print directly in the window, then copy them in a file
and attach it to this bug. If you're using J9 VM, then outputs will be directly
printed in a file...
Comment 6 Keith Hankin CLA 2005-03-08 13:36:46 EST
I was going to do a VM snapshot, but now I'm not having the problem! The project
builds fine. I *did* just get a new computer, and I'm wondering if I wasn't
having some flakiness with the other one. It *is* the same hard disk, so I don't
think it was a file system problem. I'm closing the ticket.

Reopen to change resolution...
Comment 8 Frederic Fusier CLA 2005-03-09 04:44:25 EST
FIXED is only when code has been changed. Use INVALID instead as this was not a
JDT/Core issue...
Comment 9 Keith Hankin CLA 2005-04-09 02:21:38 EDT
I am still seeing this problem, on and off. For a while, the project will build,
then sometimes it will get stuck during the "copying resources". What makes it
worse is that even though I click on the button to cancel it, it keeps on
trying, and the only way to kill it is via task manager (I'm running it on Win XP).
Comment 10 Keith Hankin CLA 2005-04-09 02:23:23 EDT
I forgot to mention that I'm now using 3.0.2 and it is still happening.
Comment 11 Kent Johnson CLA 2005-05-02 08:16:35 EDT
So when its 'stuck', can you get a stack dump of the VM using Crtl-shift-break.
Comment 12 Philipe Mulet CLA 2005-06-08 10:23:07 EDT
Please reopen once steps to reproduce are made available
Comment 13 Frederic Fusier CLA 2006-02-03 06:01:56 EST
Timeout. Closing
Comment 14 Denis Roy CLA 2009-08-30 02:07:29 EDT
As of now 'LATER' and 'REMIND' resolutions are no longer supported.
Please reopen this bug if it is still valid for you.
