Under Linux GTK when e.g. "step" fails in the debugger(another PR), the modal
error requester appears *behind* the GUI. Since I don't see the requester until
I move the window, the GUI appears to be hung. 

My preference: remove modal requesters for errors in GDB. 

Put the information on some non-intrusive list a la Error Log.
