Description Kesava Deekshit CLA 2004-12-06 00:00:15 EST
Hi ,
I have a strange problem. i was using Eclipse 2.1.2 at my workplace for
Java Development and decided to use the same at home too. i downloaded the zip
from eclipse.org and installed it. it was working allright for a while until i
decided to use a different version of Java. i was previously using JDK 1.5,
and since I was using JDK 1.4.2 at work, i decided to use that at home too. So
i remove the JDK and JRE and re-install JDK1.4.2 (the one with comes bundled
with the NetBeans IDE) from Sun. After this i go to setup my Tomcat plugin, i
cant find the Java option, nor can i find the Tomcat option. i use the SysDeo
plugin for Tomcat. i have tried removing everything, Eclipse, Tomcat and Java
and reinstalled all of them, but i am now not able to create a new Java
Project or Tomcat project. When i click on File-> New, all i get is Project.
Is there something i missed out, or some incompatibility?. i also tried using
the JDK 1.5, but now Eclipse wont work with 1.5 either. i really need a
solution to this problem. i work out of home too, and this is seriously
affecting my productivity.

I have tried using other IDE's like NetBeans and IntelliJ IDEA, and they both
seem to work without any problem. The reason i want to stick to Eclipse is
that its much more easy to use compared to the other IDE's.

System Configuration

AMD Athlon 2400+
Windows XP with Service Pack 2
512 MB DDR RAM
80 GB HDD

I cant use either versions of Eclipse (2.1.2 or 3.0).

Thanks
Deekshit

Are you sure you didn't reinstall the SDK Eclipse Platform drop? This one
doesn't contain the JDT plugins. What is the list of plugins if you go to:
Help>About Eclipse Plaform>Plug-in details?

Hi,
I think i did install the SDK, but even though i remove it and put
back the older copy of Eclipse that was working, is it supposed to
have a problem?. I have not checked under the Plugin details, but when
i click on Window>Preferences, I dont see Java under that list. i can
see the following

1. Workbench
2. Ant
3. Build Order
4. Debug (not sure)
5. Help
6. Install/Update
7. Team

The one's extra i see at office are Java, Plugin Development and Tomcat.

Which is the correct one i should be using to be able to work with
Java. Would appreciate it if you could point me to the
URL.Alternatively if I can use the SDK and need to download plugins
for JDT, please point me to that location as well.

Thanks
Deekshit

Do you have plugins starting with org.eclipse.jdt.* in your plugins folder of
your Eclipse install?
Change severity to normal as this looks like a configuration problem.

Go to the download page or any of the mirror pages and get the "JDT Runtime
Binary" download.
Or you download the "Eclipse SDK" that contains the Platform + the JDT plugins.
Closing as WORKSFORME.
