Description Michael Van Meekeren CLA 2004-09-09 11:02:08 EDT
There is a mistake in the message in the dialog that you seen when the browser
widget can not be found (I am running MOTIF).

The message says "The HTML Browser widget could not be created. The standard
text widget is used instead."

It should say "The standard text widget will be used instead."

But further to this. I don't really think the user cares about this at all. I
would suggest removing this dialog altogether and just silently switching to the
text widget. The existence of the dialog gives me the feeling something is
wrong.. but it isn't.

The message is needed because you will have much less functionality (e.g.
linking) and the content might look quite different.

Not critical for 3.0.1.

One Question, fixed means removed the dialog?

I see, in that case I disagree with this as a solution. I think it is in
conflict with the overall goal of being simple-to-use and frankly does not
really offer the user any solution to the problem so why mention it. I would
not expect a message like this from any other mainstream application it feels
unprofessional somehow.
Comment 6 Michael Van Meekeren CLA 2005-05-11 17:22:20 EDT
Perhaps this should just be an Information dialog instead of Error? Errors
scare users and in this case they should not be scared.
Comment 7 Dani Megert CLA 2005-05-11 17:35:00 EDT
Discussed with Michael and agreed to remove the dialog for 3.2. However for 3.2
we should find a way to give the user a hint that there's a Browser widget out
there and how it can be enabled.

Verifying...
Comment 10 David Saff CLA 2005-05-27 06:06:13 EDT
Actually, not verifying. Perhaps a non-Windows user would have an easier time
verifying?
