Type a period after a variable, causing content assist pops up.  Now backspace
over the period, content assist stays open.  Instead, it should close.

This is as designed you can then replace stuff before the .

We won't change this but could add a code assist preference which closes the
code assistant as soon as you go back to the initiating position.
