Description Steven Ostrowski CLA 2004-06-02 19:02:05 EDT
When a large JAR file is on the build path, overall Eclipse performance is very
sluggish. Code completion, quick-fix, etc all get bogged down.

I have the weblogic.jar (35MB, largest JAR I've seen!) on my build path and as
soon as I added it, everything became extremely slow.

Does starting Eclipse with -vmargs -Xmx256M help ?
Comment 2 Steven Ostrowski CLA 2004-06-03 20:58:56 EDT
No, I actually tried starting it with -vmargs -Xmx512M, and I still had the same
issues. All that did was prevent the Out of Memory errors I was getting.
However, the performance is still horrible.

I have 1GB of RAM in the machine, so I don't believe it's the RAM or any paging.
It behaves as if there's some polynomial algorithm (or exponential?) on the JAR
parsing.

btw - you can download BEA Weblogic for free and the weblogic.jar is located in
the /bea/weblogic81/server/lib directory

May you precise the version you used when you got this problem?
Also can you make a try with last RC3 build and let us know if you still have
this problem?
We already have more than 35MB of jar files set in project classpath (rt.jar is
already 25MB) and never get this horrible performance issue... but perhaps you
reached a limit here or this peculiar jar file may cause a specific issue in our
algorithm...
So, may you gave us the precise address of website where we can get it, I try
and never succeed to find a place from where I can download it.
Please reopen the bug when you'll provide requested info, thanks

Closing as never got requested information in a long time

As of now 'LATER' and 'REMIND' resolutions are no longer supported.
Please reopen this bug if it is still valid for you.
