I am installing Cheetah against a brand new install of Eclipse 3.0M8. I am running Eclipse using a command line to point the -vm to JDK 1.4.1_01. I am installing Cheetah using the update site. Although I think it's irrelevant, my OS is XP SP1 with pretty much all the WU updates installed. I shall now relate everything that I thought was strange: 1) When I install Cheetah using "Find and Install...", it tells me that I need - hang on - interesting... when I installed off my workspace, it said that it needed some 2.0.0 and 2.1.1 versions of some plugins, but it didn't this time - I suppose my workspace might need some cleaning. 2) Properties - the Java/Compiler, Java/Editor, Java/Debug/Detail Formatters etc pages say "Could not accept changes": "The currently displayed page contains invalid values" 3) Opening Java Files - "Problems opening editor":"Could not instantiate Editor: org.eclipse.jdt.ui.CompilationUnitEditor org.eclipse.core.runtime.CoreException: Plug-in "org.eclipse.jdt.ui" was unable to instatiate class "org.eclipse.jdt.internal.ui.javaeditor.CompilationUnitEditor"." 4) Exiting workbench - "Problems saving workspace":"Problems occurred while trying to save the state of the workbench." 5) Restarting eclipse - all property pages are back to previous versions, but I still can't open java files. Should I try another version of eclipse? or another version of Cheetah? How do I install from the CVS? Cheers Stephen
Cheetah05 is meant to be installed on Eclipse 3.0-I20040514 and better builds. This is documented there (this URL was part of the announcement): http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/jdt-core- home/r3.0/main.html#updates
