Eclipse IDE for Java Developers (includes Incubating components)
Version: 2021-09 (4.21.0)
Build id: 20210910-1417
Ubuntu 20LTS

This bug has been around since at least 2009. This is copy of https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/t/106309/
I was unable to find this bug here. Therefore I make a new ticket.

The problem is that the entire system (not just Eclipse) hangs up when the Eclipse IDEr hits a breakpoint and tries to switch to the debug mode.
It comes with a prompt but you can not click on it. Everything in the system is frozen. You can not click anything on the desktop. Neither mouse nor keyboard are responding.

This seems to happen when the breakpoint is triggered by a GUI action, typically opening a combobox. See mentioned existing ticket/issue linked above.

This issue may be related to 256119 (which was closed as worksforme). I'm not sure if this issue exists on other platforms.

BTW I'm NOT using the latest Eclipse because of too many usability and compatibility issues with that.
