When I go to Preferences/General/Appearance/Colors and Fonts/Text Font and choose a font like Fira Mono Medium or Source Code Pro Medium (or Semibold), Eclipse resets it to Regular after I click OK in the font chooser dialog box.

Confirmed exactly the same behaviour, I also use Source Code Pro and Fira Code, 
font typography does not work in Eclipse. This is a highly impactful and taxing strain for the vision if one needs to work with code for many hours.
