The screenshot in https://help.eclipse.org/latest/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.isv%2Fguide%2Ffirstplugin_create.htm&cp%3D2_0_2_1 looks old (Win XP). The tutorial text is incorrect. The box "Add the view to the java persepective" is correct in the screenshot. The tutorial text is "Add the view to the resource perspective".
Step 6 no longer applies.
In Running the plug-in [1] -> Launching the workbench: main menu entry is now lacking the three dots and you have to press "OK" instead of "New". [1]: https://help.eclipse.org/latest/topic/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/guide/firstplugin_run.htm?cp=2_0_2_4
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it.
