Description Hello ItsMe CLA 2020-12-08 06:52:45 EST
Lately upgraded to Big Sur v. 11.0.1 (20B50)

I managed to launch eclipse by adding to /Applications/Eclipse Java.app/Contents/Info.plist
the Line <string>-vm</string><string>path to java</string>

Unfortunately importing existing eclipse project or creating a new project fails with following log message

2020-12-08 12:46:38.619 eclipse[37384:806929] CheckForInstalledJavaRuntimes: Please visit http://www.java.com for information on installing java.

@Lakshmi: Could you please see whether you are able to reproduce this issue in BigSur?

What is the Eclipse version you are using?

There was an issue in launching Bug 565913 and has been fixed in Eclipse 4.18 (that releases tomorrow).
For other versions, you can try launching from command line (instead of editing Info.plist)
cd Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS
./eclipse -vm <path to java executable>

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
