Description Ed Willink CLA 2020-10-30 11:18:58 EDT
If a user-defined toString() method has a problem, such as use of a not-yet-constructed value, the Variables View shows com.sun.jdi.InvocationException occurred invoking method as the failed value.

Ok, toString() has failed, but where is the stack trace to assist in debugging the problem?

The workarpund of adding a manuall call to toString() is pretty tedious and cannot be performed in the current session. Strangely it doesn't always work.

Please make the user stack failure available as at least one of

a) fuller display in the Variables View output
b) full trace in Error Log
c) expand to Error Log menu action
d) display stack menu action
e) expand to Console menu action
f) Hovertext in the Variables View

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
