Code mining information is interesting but I would not like to see it all the time. It would be great to enable it just in case I am interested, eg on a keystroke. Now we have the "toggle code mining" keyboard shortcut, but for me this does not work reliably. Hitting the key combination multiple times should enable/disable/enable ... but on my machine this only works once. Would also be interesting if code minings would only show up while holding a key, eg Ctrl.

Yes, this is a known bug. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=563199#c6 . This is even true of enabling/disabling via preference dialog. The difficulty with a keyboard shortcut, is what to use that isn't already taken. Initially we considered binding code minings to the same key as "Toggle Mark Occurrences", but it's certainly possible that users may want one and not the other.
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. -- The automated Eclipse Genie.
