I use eclipse on a daily basis and I usually do not close eclipse. When I do close it after having it up and running for about a week and then start it up again, eclipse freezes with a message in the lower right "Initializing CDT Debug UI". I cannot recover from that without deleting the workspace and recreating everything from scratch. This happened to me now very frequently within the last months and recreating the workspace is obviously quite a bit of work.

I am not sure I can reproduce the error with a clean workspace and the one I have contains code I cannot share.

Is there anything in the Error log, i.e. stack traces?
