There is a very subtle difference in background color between the selected (aka focused) editorTab and the rest of the editorTabs.
On one of the monitors I use, it is actually impossible to tell the difference, and I have to look at the navigator tree to see which tab is selected.

Focused editorTab now has a slim colored strip across the top.
