Cannot type an asterisk in java editor in eclipse oxygen 3.A. 411723 is in resolved state which was raised for an older version of eclipse long back.
Comment 1 Girish M Ramarao CLA 2018-06-19 15:38:47 EDT
Typing asterisk using SHIFT+8 is not working.
Comment 2 Stephan Herrmann CLA 2018-06-19 16:49:32 EDT
Could you please attach the list of installed plugins (from About Eclipse > Installation Details > Configuration> *** Plug-in Registry: ) ?

Does it also happen in a freshly installed Eclipse?

Plugin List

Attached is the list of plugins found in my installation. I did install few like Spring related and Eclipse SDK/e4 etc.

I tried a new installation on a different machine and it works fine. Will install another version of eclipse and will try again and will update.

Installed older versions as well the next version - Photon. I confirm that this issue is only with this particular installation of Oxygen 3.A.

Maybe one of the plug-ins uses Shift+8 as keybinding. Open the Keys preference page and enter "Shift+8" to check that.
Comment 6 Noopur Gupta CLA 2018-06-20 03:47:13 EDT
Please uninstall all "Eclipse * Tests" plug-ins from your installation, and if it still doesn't work then uninstall all other tests plug-ins as well.

I think this keybinding is used by one of the platform test plug-ins which causes this issue.

Bingo, removed Eclipse SDK related test plugins and it works.

Thanks,

Suould there be a new defect raised for Eclipse SDK to get this fixed?

No, those are tests.
