Updates Checks / downloads blocking activity
Hi
It would be great of eclipse didn't block other activity on - update checks / downloads
I noticed that this happens with Maven repo checks to.

Moving to p2 for the update check issue.

For different scenarios affecting different components separate bugs should be filed.

FYI, I haven't seen any issues with letting Eclipse perform both operations in the background. You may have to provide more information to demonstrate that there actually is a problem.

I've not noticed that anything is blocked by automatic update checks.

Or are you suggesting the update dialog should be non-modal.  I don't think that's really a good idea or feasible...
