A read-only diagram that is optimized for being refreshed frequently would be very usefull for showing model animations. 
For example see slide 21  of https://www.slideshare.net/Obeo_corp/siriuscon2016-integrating-textual-and-graphical-editing-in-the-poosl-ide. To enhance the performance of the diagram the palette and other costly GMF actions could be disabled

Thanks for your detailed enhancement submit.
We agree that it would be an interesting improvement.
Nevertheless, we have currently not planned to work on it in the following releases.
